על D.C. United
United was the dominant club of MLS's first years, winning three MLS Cups, in 1996, 1997 and 1999, and two Supporters' Shields, in 1997 and 1999, under head coach Bruce Arena, in addition to the 1998 CONCACAF Champions' Cup and Copa Interamericana, the only U.S. club to hold the latter title. The 1996 season produced the first domestic double in modern U.S. soccer, as United won both the inaugural MLS Cup and that year's U.S. Open Cup. Overall, the club has won four MLS Cups, a joint-record four Supporters' Shields and three U.S. Open Cups.
The club's early success was built around the attacking trio of Jaime Moreno, Marco Etcheverry and Raúl Díaz Arce. A second era of success followed under coach Piotr Nowak in the mid-2000s, whose roster, which included teenage prospect Freddy Adu, won a fourth MLS Cup in 2004 and made United the first MLS club to win consecutive Supporters' Shields, in 2006 and 2007. The Ben Olsen managerial era, from 2010 to 2020, produced a further U.S. Open Cup title in 2013 despite otherwise inconsistent league form, and the club moved into a new soccer-specific stadium in 2018 after more than two decades at its original home.
D.C. United competes in the Eastern Conference of MLS. The club finished outside the playoff positions in the 2025 season and continues to rebuild its roster under its current ownership and technical staff.
