Chris Barnes
Chris Barnes, born December 29, 1967, in Buffalo, New York, is an American death metal vocalist recognised as one of the genre's most influential voices, known for his low, guttural delivery and graphic lyrical themes. He co-founded Cannibal Corpse in 1988 and served as its original lead vocalist and lyricist until 1995, recording four studio albums with the band including the genre landmark Tomb of the Mutilated in 1992.

After leaving Cannibal Corpse, Barnes formed Six Feet Under in 1993, which has remained his primary vehicle and is set to release its fifteenth studio album, Next to Die, in 2026. His early vocal style, often described as pioneering the genre's harshest register, went on to shape the slam and brutal death metal subgenres. He has also designed the band logos for both Cannibal Corpse and Six Feet Under, and continues to record and tour as the band's frontman.
