Informazioni su Jesse Welles

His music draws on the folk and rock traditions of Bob Dylan, the Beatles and Nirvana, and on the writing of Walt Whitman and Cormac McCarthy, with critics likening his songwriting to Woody Guthrie. His 2018 debut album, Red Trees and White Trashes, was produced by Dave Cobb and drew praise from NPR for its "heft and complexity." He received four nominations at the 68th Grammy Awards in 2026 and the Spirit of Americana/Free Speech Award in 2025.

From 2024, Welles built a wider following through self-filmed videos, often shot beneath power lines in his native Arkansas, addressing healthcare, the war in Gaza, capitalism and addiction. His single "United Health," released after the killing of a health-insurance executive, drew attention for confronting the American insurance industry directly, part of what outlets called a revival of the protest song.

In 2026 Welles released the album Middle, produced by Eddie Spear, whose single "Horses" marked a shift toward electric guitar and drums after years of largely acoustic recordings. He has performed on television including Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, extending his reach beyond the clips that built his audience.
