Informazioni su Transvision Vamp
The band's sound combined pop rock and alternative rock with new wave influences, built around James's rebellious public image and forceful stage presence. Their debut album, Pop Art (1988), reached number four on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum in Australia, while its follow-up, Velveteen (1989), topped the UK chart and reached number two in Australia. The group's biggest hit, "Baby I Don't Care," reached number three in both the UK and Australia, part of a run of ten UK chart singles including "Sister Moon," "Revolution Baby" and "Tell That Girl to Shut Up."
Creative and commercial pressure mounted around a planned third album, and the label's resistance to it contributed to the band's split in February 1992. James subsequently pursued a solo career, beginning in 1993 with an album written by Elvis Costello, while Parsons went on to join the post-grunge band Bush.
James revived Transvision Vamp in 2025 with a new lineup featuring Parsons alongside guitarist Alex Ward, drummer James Sclavunos and keyboardist Matt Millership, marking the band's first return to active performance in more than three decades.
