Usher Raymond IV, known professionally as Usher, is an American R&B singer, songwriter and producer born October 14, 1978, in Dallas, Texas, and raised largely in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He began singing in church as a child, relocated to Atlanta as a teenager to pursue music, and signed to LaFace Records at age 13, releasing his self-titled debut album in 1994.

His second album, My Way (1997), produced his first number-one single, "Nice & Slow." He achieved multi-platinum success with 8701 (2001), and his fourth album, Confessions (2004), became one of the best-selling albums of the 2000s, certified 14-times platinum and yielding four consecutive number-one singles. Later albums include Here I Stand (2008), Raymond v. Raymond (2010) and Coming Home (2024).

Usher has been credited with shaping 2000s R&B and pop crossover sound through dance-oriented production and choreography-driven performances. He has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and has nine number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 as a lead artist, along with multiple Grammy Awards.

In 2024, he performed the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show, watched by roughly 123 million viewers in the United States, and received a BET Lifetime Achievement Award. He continues to tour and record.
