The eve of 14 August draws a candlelit procession; 15 August itself is the peak of the pilgrimage, with the icon paraded through the decorated streets of Tinos Town.

Anastenaria — the fire-walking ritual of northern Greece

In a small cluster of villages near Thessaloniki — chiefly Agia Eleni and Langadas — descendants of refugees from Eastern Thrace preserve the Anastenaria: carrying icons of Saints Constantine and Helen, dancing in a trance state for hours to build up to walking barefoot across glowing coals, said to reach over 500°C, without apparent injury.
