Peso-Contra-Peso: Sculptural Balance at MACAM

Peso-Contra-Peso brings together three-dimensional works from the MACAM collection that explore balance, tension, and transformation in space. The exhibition is organized around thematic nuclei—nature and abstraction, scale and resistance, cities and urbanism—prompting reflection on the forces that structure both the built and natural worlds.

Through sculptures, installations, and other three-dimensional proposals, Portuguese and international artists investigate concepts of weight and counterweight that go far beyond the material dimension of the works. References to architecture, urban expansion, and collective life reveal relationships of conflict, adaptation, and permanence.

Curated by Adelaide Ginga and Carolina Quintela, the show highlights how tension between materials, forms, and scales exposes processes of physical, social, and symbolic resistance, while observation of nature inspires exercises in synthesis, abstraction, and formal reinvention.
