Voices from the Plague: A 1710 Helsinki Audio Walk

Voices from the Plague is an immersive audio drama that turns a walk through a Helsinki graveyard into a journey back to the autumn of 1710. Using binaural recordings and an audio map in the ECHOES app, you follow numbered scenes tied to specific dates as the plague rages through the city. The old burial ground, now known as the Plague Park, becomes the setting for these layered soundscapes, with church bells, carriage wheels, and voices of 18th-century residents appearing around you.

The journey begins at the yellow gate towards Bulevardi and lasts about half an hour. You are encouraged to explore beyond the marked circles, as hidden sounds may be waiting off the map. The piece is created by Svenska Yle Drama and offered in Finnish, Swedish, and English. It is not recommended for children under ten.
