A Different Thread

English-American folk duo A Different Thread play Newcastle Upon Tyne on Sunday 4 October 2026. Core members Alicia Best (North Carolina) and Robert Jackson (UK) met busking in Galway, Ireland, in 2016 and have toured together since, building a transatlantic sound that pairs Jackson's British folk-rock background with Best's Americana and alt-country influences.

Their music draws on artists such as Gillian Welch, the Avett Brothers and John Prine, blending fiddle, guitar, harmonica and close vocal harmonies into a largely acoustic set. Recurring themes in their songwriting include distance, travel and long-distance relationships, reflecting the duo's own transatlantic set-up.

The Newcastle date is part of a wider UK tour; the duo are otherwise based in North Carolina between tours.
