The Proclaimers: Scottish Rock Duo

The Proclaimers are a Scottish rock duo. Twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid formed the group in 1983. The pair first drew wider notice with the 1987 single "Letter from America", a No. 3 hit in the United Kingdom.

Their 1988 single "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" reached the top of the charts in Australia, Iceland and New Zealand. Sunshine on Leith, released in 1988, is the duo's biggest album. It has been certified multi-Platinum in Australia and Canada and has sold over two million copies worldwide, including around 700,000 in the United States.

Across their career the Proclaimers have sold over five million albums worldwide. Starting out in 1983 as an acoustic duo, the group later moved toward band-oriented rock. Their style draws on country, folk and punk rock, and their playing range has taken in roots rock, alternative rock and folk rock.

Their Scottish accents are a defining feature of their music. The Proclaimers have released 12 studio albums since 1987, most recently 2026's You May Offend, along with three compilation albums and a DVD. They often tour internationally.
