Autechre: Rob Brown and Sean Booth of Rochdale

Autechre are an English electronic music duo made up of Rob Brown and Sean Booth, both from Rochdale, Greater Manchester. The pair formed the project in 1987. Their releases have come through the UK electronic label Warp Records, starting with the 1993 debut album Incunabula.

Earlier, in 1992, they appeared on Warp's compilation Artificial Intelligence with the tracks "Crystel" and "The Egg". Booth has given the pronunciation of the name as "awe-teh-ker". Brown and Booth met in 1987 through friends in Manchester's graffiti and breakdance scene, and their early work drew on Manchester's electro, hip-hop and acid house scenes.

Their first release was a self-titled 12-inch under the alias Lego Feet on Skam Records, and their first release as Autechre was the 1991 single "Cavity Job". Warp issued Incunabula in November 1993; the album included "Eggshell", a reworking of "The Egg". Their second album, Amber, followed in 1994, after the Basscadet Mixes EP of versions of the Incunabula track "Basscadet".

Shortly before Amber came the Anti EP, a protest against the then-proposed Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill, with proceeds donated to the civil liberties group Liberty. In 1995 Warp released the third album Tri Repetae together with the EPs Garbage and Anvil Vapre. Chiastic Slide arrived in 1997, the same year as the EPs Envane and Cichlisuite, and an untitled 1998 release commonly known as LP5 followed the next year.

Warp also released Peel Session, recorded for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 programme in 1995, and EP7 in 1999, and Peel Session 2 in 2000. Their sixth album, Confield, followed in 2001.
