Fruit Bats, the indie rock project of Eric D. Johnson, formed in Chicago in 1997. Johnson, who taught guitar and banjo at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music, released the band's debut album 'Echolocation' in 2001 and made their live debut at Chicago's Empty Bottle that March.
Johnson's time as a member of The Shins from 2006 to 2010 influenced his songwriting, leading to albums like 'The Ruminant Band' (2009), which received positive reviews from Pitchfork, The A.V. Club, and Robert Christgau. The band's 2011 album 'Tripper' featured guest appearances by J. Mascis and Neal Casal and reached the top 15 of the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
After a brief dissolution in 2013, Fruit Bats reformed in 2015 and have continued touring. This Atlanta date offers a chance to hear songs from their catalog, which includes soundtrack work for the film 'Our Idiot Brother' (2011).
