Pentatonix: Christmas in the City Tour in Raleigh

Pentatonix brings its holiday tour to Raleigh, centered on 'Christmas in the City,' the a cappella group's album of festive originals and classics. The project was inspired by the glow of Christmastime in New York, and the band aimed for a whimsical, jazzy, and cozy sound. It is their twelfth studio album and eighth Christmas-themed release, and the first under their new label, Republic Records.

On stage, the five members — Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Matt Sallee, and Kevin Olusola — bring a big band orchestral feel to their vocal-heavy arrangements. The album's 16 tracks blend original songs like 'Bah Humbug,' a witty retelling of A Christmas Carol, with jazzy takes on holiday standards. It also features guest spots from JoJo on 'Snowing in Paris' and a posthumous appearance by Frank Sinatra on 'I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm.'

The result is a genre-fluid holiday show, moving from Fosse-like theatrical numbers to contemporary originals. Fans of precise multi-part harmonies and rhythmic vocal interplay will find much to enjoy in the group's reimagining of the season.
