For nearly four decades Donavon Frankenreiter has been travelling the globe, first as a professional surfer and now as a musician. Born in Southern California, he turned pro at sixteen, traded surf contests for concert halls, and now tours with a three-piece band, playing laid-back grooves, philosophical lyrics and a soulful delivery. He still catches waves whenever he can.
Joining him are Austin's The Band of Heathens, anchored by songwriters Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist. Formed in 2005, they broke through in 2009 with a heartfelt blend of country and rock, including performances at Austin City Limits on PBS and the Austin City Limits Festival. Their song 'Hurricane' later went gold and platinum, and the band looks ahead with the upcoming album Country Sides.
The evening pairs Frankenreiter's mellow surf-tinged rock with the Heathens' incisive country-rock storytelling, a mix of soft rock and country-rock from two acts with deep roots in their respective scenes.
