Atlanta Ballet
Atlanta Ballet was founded in 1929 by Dorothy Alexander as the Dorothy Alexander Concert Group, later known as the Atlanta Civic Ballet. It is recognized as the first regional ballet company in the United States and, following a 1973 resolution of the Georgia General Assembly, as the state's official ballet company. Alexander led the organization until 1962, when Robert Barnett, a former New York City Ballet dancer who had joined the company in 1958, succeeded her as artistic director.

О Atlanta Ballet
Barnett led the company for more than three decades, obtaining rare permission from George Balanchine to stage his choreography outside New York City Ballet and building a repertoire that included The Nutcracker. The company gained professional status and was incorporated as Atlanta Ballet Inc. in 1967. John McFall became its third artistic director in 1994, broadening the repertoire toward contemporary and modern work through collaborations including the Indigo Girls in 2001 and Big Boi of Outkast in 2008. Gennadi Nedvigin, previously of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy and San Francisco Ballet, became artistic director in 2016.
The company fields about 40 dancers in its main company and 16 in a second company, casting without a traditional rank hierarchy, and performs primarily at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Its repertoire spans classical story ballets such as Swan Lake alongside contemporary work, including an annual production of The Nutcracker. Atlanta Ballet also operates the Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education, one of the largest accredited dance schools in the country, teaching ballet, jazz, modern, tap and other styles across multiple Atlanta locations.
