Primal Scream
Primal Scream is a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1982 by singer Bobby Gillespie and guitarist Jim Beattie. The group's lineup has shifted considerably over four decades, with Gillespie remaining the sole constant alongside long-serving guitarist and keyboardist Andrew Innes and drummer Darrin Mooney. Early releases leaned toward jangly indie pop before the band began absorbing dance, house and electronic influences later in the 1980s.

О Primal Scream
That shift produced Screamadelica (1991), an album that fused acid house rhythms with rock songwriting and became a defining record of its era. It won the inaugural Mercury Music Prize in 1992, beating fellow Glasgow act The Jesus and Mary Chain. Subsequent albums pursued different directions: Vanishing Point (1997) drew on dub and krautrock textures, while XTRMNTR (2000) turned toward abrasive, politically charged electronic rock. Singles including "Loaded," "Rocks," "Kowalski," "Country Girl" and "Swastika Eyes" carried the band across genres and decades of UK chart presence.
Primal Scream has continued releasing new material into the 2020s, including the album Come Ahead (2024). Live shows typically expand the core band with backing vocalists, saxophone and additional keyboards, giving concert arrangements a fuller, more layered sound than the studio versions. The band's catalogue, and Screamadelica in particular, is frequently cited among the most significant British albums of the 1990s.
