Why visit Nicosia
Nicosia is Cyprus's cultural and administrative heart. The star-shaped Venetian walls enclose a dense old town of churches, mosques, the Cyprus Museum, Ledra Street and the crossing point to the north. Unlike the coastal resorts, the capital keeps a full events calendar through autumn and winter.
It is an easy day trip or base for the centre of the island, well connected by motorway to Limassol, Larnaca and the Troodos mountains. Evenings centre on the old town's tavernas, wine bars and the theatre district.
