Bullshit Detector

Bullshit Detector is a series of compilation LPs curated by the anarcho-punk band Crass, released on their Crass Records label between 1980 and 1984. The compilations feature demo tapes, rough recordings, and artwork sent to the band, embracing the raw DIY punk ethic. The sound quality is intentionally unpolished, as Crass mastered tapes directly to record without additional production, reflecting the belief that polished performance misses the point of punk's raw anger and defiance.

Attendees can expect a gritty, authentic experience showcasing early punk and anarcho-punk acts. The series is notable for marking the first vinyl appearances of bands like Chumbawamba (on Volume 2) and Napalm Death (on Volume 3). The title itself references the Clash song "Garageland," and the iconic marker pen art on the sleeves was designed by Haggis (David Hargreaves) of Youthanasia PX.
