Рим
Ancient ruins sit unfenced in the middle of everyday traffic, and that collision of the classical and the ordinary is what makes Rome unlike anywhere else. The historic centre is dense enough to walk between the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Vatican in a single day, but it's also chaotic, loud and heaving with tour groups at every major site. The food, unsurprisingly, is as good as its reputation.

The most popular sights, with 2026 entrance fees. Prices are adult admission — cheapest at the gate. Many of the best things are free.
| Attraction | Entrance | Time | Why go |
|---|---|---|---|
| Colosseum | €18 | 2-3 hours | Amphitheater completed in 80 CE that hosted gladiatorial contests and public spectacles for the ancient Roman public. The standard ticket also grants entry to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. |
| Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel | €20 | 3-4 hours | Museum complex of the Holy See displaying papal art collections along a fixed route that ends in the Sistine Chapel, site of Michelangelo's ceiling and Last Judgment frescoes. |
| St. Peter's Basilica | Free | 1-1.5 hours (plus about 1 hour for the dome climb) | Renaissance-era basilica built over the traditional burial site of the apostle Peter, with a dome designed by Michelangelo that can be climbed separately for a view over St. Peter's Square. |
| Roman Forum and Palatine Hill | Included | 1.5-2.5 hours | Ruined civic and religious core of ancient Rome, adjoining the Palatine Hill where tradition places the city's founding and where emperors later built their residences. |
| Pantheon | €7 | 30-45 minutes | Former Roman temple with the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world, converted into a church (Santa Maria ad Martyres) in the 7th century and now the burial site of Raphael and Italian kings. |
