The Ghost and the Invention Device

Inside the Museum of Technology in Helsinki, The Ghost and the Invention Device turns a museum visit into a playful investigation. Children are drawn into a story about the Ghost of the Museum, who asks them to solve mysteries, handle objects and invent as a way to understand how technology fits into everyday life. The space mixes museum objects with hands-on activities and supports creative, child-led engagement.

Different areas approach technology from different angles — the essence and stages of invention, the values and relevance of technology, collaboration, Finnish inventions and how technology has changed over time. As the tour builds to its close, children can use what they have learned to switch on the Ghost’s Invention Device, giving the exhibition the shape of a mission rather than a walk past display cases.
