All of its U.S. hits were ballads, characterized by the falsetto of Russell Thompkins Jr. and the production of Thom Bell. In the early 1970s the group had twelve consecutive R&B top ten hits, including "Stop, Look, Listen", "You Are Everything" and "Betcha by Golly, Wow".

"You Make Me Feel Brand New" held at No. 2 in the U.S. for two weeks in 1974. As U.S.

success waned, the group's popularity in Europe, and especially the United Kingdom, increased, and "Can't Give You Anything (But My Love)" reached U.K. No. 1 in 1975.
