The band's sound spans alternative and progressive rock with experimental and electronic elements, first reaching wide audiences with A Beautiful Lie (2005). Subsequent albums, including This Is War (2009) and America (2018), continued the group's arena-scale sound, built around singles such as "The Kill," "Kings and Queens" and "Closer to the Edge."
