This Parisian production brings to life a French baroque tragédie lyrique, drawing on the later books of Virgil's Aeneid. The opera, originally composed by Pascal Collasse with a libretto by Bernard Le Bovier de Fontenelle, features a tale of love, war, and divine intervention set to period music.
The story follows Aeneas after the fall of Troy as he seeks to marry Lavinia, daughter of King Latinus. He faces rivalry from the prince Turnus, favored by Queen Amata and the goddess Juno.
