Carpenter Brut: French darksynth musician from Poitiers

Carpenter Brut is the stage name of Franck Hueso, a French darksynth musician from Poitiers, France. His first three EPs, EP I (2012), EP II (2013) and EP III (2015), were later collected as his debut album Trilogy (2015). Four further studio albums followed: Leather Teeth (2018), Blood Machines OST (2020), Leather Terror (2022) and Leather Temple (2026), plus the live album CarpenterBrutLive (2017).

He has also written original music for film and video game soundtracks. On stage, Carpenter Brut is joined by guitarist Adrien Grousset and drummer Florent Marcadet, both of the French metal band Hacride. Hueso has said his relative anonymity is a deliberate artistic choice, so that the music itself matters more than the identity of the musician behind it.

He began writing as Carpenter Brut intending to mix sounds from horror films, metal, rock and electronic music. The 2012 and 2013 EPs came out on BlackBvs Records; the third EP in 2015, and all later releases as of April 2020, appeared on Hueso's own No Quarter Prod label, set up so he could stay independent and keep control of his own image and art.

Two songs from Trilogy, Le Perv and Roller Mobster, were used in the soundtrack for Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number, and the track Escape from Midwich Valley was used in one of the game's trailers. Its music videos were directed by Silver Strain, who also created the visuals projected during Carpenter Brut's live performances.
