The Hu
The Hu is a Mongolian folk metal band formed in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar by producer Bayarmagnai Dashdondog, who selected four musicians trained at the Mongolian State Music and Dance Conservatory. The band calls its style hunnu rock, a fusion of traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat singing with heavy metal, named for the ancient Xiongnu, or Hunnu, empire.

About The Hu
The current lineup, Galbadrakh Tsendbaatar, Nyamjantsan Galsanjamts, Enkhsaikhan Batjargal, and Temuulen Naranbaatar, plays instruments including the morin khuur (horsehead fiddle), tsuur, tovshuur, and tumur khuur alongside throat singing and Mongolian-language lyrics drawn from poetry and war cries. Their 2019 single Wolf Totem became the first song by a Mongolian act to reach number one on Billboard's Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart.
The band released its debut album, The Gereg, in 2019 and a follow-up, Rumble of Thunder, in 2022, with a third album, Hun, following in 2026. In 2019 the Mongolian government awarded the group the Order of Genghis Khan, the country's highest state honor. The Hu has collaborated with musicians including Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, William DuVall of Alice in Chains, and Serj Tankian of System of a Down, and has supported Iron Maiden on tour, with its music also featured in the Star Wars Jedi video game series.
