Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey refers to the touring billing of Thomas Alexander Bailey, born January 18, 1954, in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, who trained as a classical pianist and worked as a music teacher before forming the new wave band Thompson Twins in 1977. The group's lineup fluctuated through numerous members before settling into the trio of Bailey, Alannah Currie, and Joe Leeway that defined its mid-1980s sound.

About Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey

As the band's singer, multi-instrumentalist, and co-producer, Bailey helped drive five UK top-ten singles, including "Love on Your Side," "Hold Me Now," "Doctor! Doctor!," "You Take Me Up," and "We Are Detective," with the group's synthesizer-driven pop videos becoming staples of early MTV programming.

Thompson Twins released their final studio album, "Queer," in 1991 before disbanding in 1993; Bailey and Currie, who had married, went on to form the electronica duo Babble, releasing two albums between 1994 and 1996. Bailey then largely stepped away from pop music, working in dub, electronica, and film scoring for roughly two decades before returning to perform Thompson Twins material live starting in 2014.

Bailey released his first solo album, "Science Fiction," in 2018, and has continued to perform extensively under the "Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey" billing, mixing the band's catalog with newer material alongside a backing band that has included Alice Offley, Charlotte Raven, and Paulina Szczepaniak.
