Bär. Ein Zeitzeuge erzählt at Schaubude Berlin, 25 February 2027

The piece is performed in spoken German and runs 45 minutes. It is recommended for ages 9 and over. The story centres on Bärchen, nicknamed Bär, a teddy bear more than 100 years old.

He was present at both very beautiful and very terrible moments, such as when the walls shook because of bombs, or when Irene's grandmother was deported. Until now he has avoided these memories. Now he enters long-closed rooms, where key stations of his biography come back to life through shadow play and sound.

It is a documentary theatre piece about the life of a Jewish child under the Nazi dictatorship, told from the point of view of a teddy bear. It is based on the memoir of Irene Grumach-Shirun, written down by Jill Levenfeld. Josephine Hock created the concept and performs, and Hannes Kapsch directs.

For grades 3 to 6, a workshop follows the performances on 25 and 26 February. It lasts 60 minutes. Tickets start at EUR 15.
