Claudio Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers for the Blessed Virgin) is a monumental sacred work from 1610, scored for soloists, choirs, and orchestra. Composed while Monteverdi served the Gonzaga dukes in Mantua, it blends the old prima pratica with the emerging seconda pratica, featuring psalms, motets, a hymn, and a Magnificat.
