hr-Bigband - Duke Ellington´s Sacred Concerts, Frankfurt

hr-Bigband - Duke Ellington´s Sacred Concerts is a concert at the hr-Sendesaal, Bertramstraße 8, in Frankfurt on Thursday 12 November 2026, 20:00. The programme brings Duke Ellington's music for big band and choir to the stage, in a collaboration with the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks under Peter Dijkstra. Andrew Lepri Meyer, tenor, and Merit Ostermann, mezzo-soprano, two members of the BR Choir, appear as soloists, and Gaines Hall is the tap dancer.

The concert lasts about 120 minutes including an interval. Tickets start at EUR 29, and a discount is available.

Ellington wrote three Sacred Concerts. The first came from a festival planned in 1965 to celebrate the completion of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, and the other two followed in 1968 and 1973.
