Peter Schindler MISSA IN JAZZ - Jubiläumskonzert 25 Jahre Missa in Jazz 2026

Peter Schindler MISSA IN JAZZ - Jubiläumskonzert 25 Jahre Missa in Jazz takes place at the Friedenskirche in Heidelberg on Saturday, 7 November 2026, at 20:00. The concert marks 25 years of Schindler's jazz mass, performed by the Kammerchor Baden-Württemberg under the direction of Jochen Woll, together with the trio "Pipes and Phones": Peter Schindler on organ, Peter Lehel on saxophone and Markus Faller on percussion, joined by Dirk Blümlein on e-bass. All the musicians of the first performance are reunited for the anniversary.

The concerts are also given in Bietigheim and Stuttgart. Schindler wrote the work especially for the Kammerchor Baden-Württemberg and his trio. It is a setting of the mass ordinary that combines modern rhythms and sounds with echoes of stylistic influences from the history of mass settings, such as polyphonic fugue technique and romantic sound structures.

Jazz improvisation sections alternate with notated sections, and the percussion acts as timekeeper. The mass was first performed in 2001 in the Leonhardskirche in Stuttgart. Tickets start at EUR 22, and a discount is available.
