Zauberdufft und Wonnegraus - Goethes Urfaust, Frankfurt

Zauberdufft und Wonnegraus - Goethes Urfaust is a theatre production at Volksbühne im Großen Hirschgraben in Frankfurt on 1 November 2026, 17:00. Tickets start at EUR 24, and a discount is available. The play is based on the Urfaust, which the young Goethe wrote in Großer Hirschgraben, drawing on travelling stages and puppet theatres.

Unlike the later Faust I + II, the Urfaust focuses on the love story of Dr. Heinrich Faust, who calls his accumulated knowledge into question. He is taken with a young woman, Gretchen, and believes she can lead him out of his life crisis. Mephisto stays at his side.

Five actors play 12 roles in a show with singing and magic. Eike Mathis Hackmann, Ulrike Kinbach, Michael Quast, Randi Rettel and Sascha Weitzel perform.

Michael Quast and Sarah Groß are responsible for direction and stage design. Sarah Groß also created the costumes, Markus Neumeyer the music and Katja Reich the make-up.
