Overview

The Presence of Vajra is an exhibition at TakeMeHome-Gallery in Helsinki, listed for 24 October 2026, 12:00. The work is by Lizzy HyoLa Kim, an artist based on Jeju Island. Her art joins Korean Buddhist heritage with Western art history. She grew up in a Buddhist temple family spanning three generations at Sanbangsan Bomunsa, which her grandfather founded and her father and younger brother later led. She left Jeju at thirteen, continued her schooling in California and later studied art in New York. Eastern symbolism meets Baroque and Rococo ornamentation in her practice. The Vajra, the Buddhist symbol of indestructibility, clarity and wisdom, sits at the centre. She rebuilds it with ribbons, symmetry, decorative structures and Western ornamental forms.
