About Avignon
Avignon is a walled Provencal city built around the Palais des Papes, the fortress-palace where the papacy relocated for most of the 14th century, and the broken Pont Saint-Benezet bridge made famous by the children's song. Its ramparts still encircle the old town almost completely.
