Irish Gothic - Ideas On Tap (Lectures In Pubs), Dublin

Irish Gothic - Ideas On Tap (Lectures In Pubs) is a pub lecture at Drop Dead Twice in Dublin on Thursday, 22 October 2026, from 19:00 to 21:00. Dr. Loic Wright leads the talk on Gothic and horror writing in Ireland, taking in Dracula, Carmilla, Melmoth the Wanderer and Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. The talk explores why dark stories, vampires, the supernatural and the occult have had such a hold on Irish culture and where fiction meets reality.

It also covers W.B. Yeats' fascination with the occult, séances, spiritualism and some of the strange real-life events that inspired Ireland's darker stories. The Ideas On Tap series features a different speaker and theme at every event.

After each talk there is a live Q&A, with drinks and conversation. The event is in person and lasts 2 hours. No refunds are given.
