The CHQ Tour | One of Dublin’s Iconic Buildings is a guided tour of the CHQ Building, starting at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin. It runs from 7 to 11 December 2026 and from 25 to 29 January 2027, at 13:00. The CHQ Building, originally known as Stack A, was built in the early 19th century as part of the Custom House docks complex.
The tour covers its original purpose as a bonded warehouse for storing cargo including tobacco, tea, wine and spirits. It also covers its transformation into a Banqueting Hall in 1856, when thousands gathered to celebrate Irish soldiers returning from the Crimean War. The building was designed by John Rennie, and visitors learn about his use of cast and wrought iron and how Stack A became one of Dublin’s earliest fireproof buildings.
The route takes in the iron-framed roof and the 72 vaults beneath the building, which could once hold more than two million litres of wine and spirits. Many of the vaults are now home to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. Tickets start at €25 for adults and €11 for children.
