Il Volo: Italian Operatic Pop Trio

Il Volo is an Italian operatic pop trio made up of Gianluca Ginoble, Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto. The group describes its own music as "popera". In 2015 the trio won the Sanremo Music Festival and went on to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Grande amore", where they finished first in the televote and third overall.

The three singers first came together in 2009, when they were among the teenagers competing in the Italian televised singing competition Ti lascio una canzone, held at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and broadcast by Rai 1. During the fourth episode of that show they performed together for the first time, singing the Neapolitan classic "'O sole mio". The group was initially named "I Tre Tenorini", later changed to "The Tryo", and in late 2010 the name became Il Volo.
