Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin formed the project in 2004. Their sound draws on post-punk, gothic rock and darkwave, and also on electroclash. Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit signed the band to his label Flawless Records.
Shirley Manson of Garbage appeared in the video for "These Things", and Joaquin Phoenix directed the video for "Tear You Apart". That song reached No. 6 on the Billboard Alternative Chart, and after the debut album the band toured with Depeche Mode and Placebo.
The band worked with Timbaland, and "Tear You Apart" was used in American Horror Story: Hotel at the personal request of Lady Gaga. The band has three studio albums, the last of which, "Valleyheart", came out in 2011.
