Porto is Portugal's second city, built on steep banks above the Douro river, with the UNESCO-listed Ribeira waterfront, the Dom Luis I bridge, and port wine cellars across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia. Its granite old town and azulejo-tiled buildings give it a grittier feel than Lisboa.
