About Serbia
Serbia is the Balkans' unpolished all-nighter: Belgrade's clubs on Danube and Sava river barges, a fortress watching over the confluence, and a food scene of rakija and grilled meat that doesn't believe in small portions. Novi Sad, an hour north, is calmer and baroque, and hosts the EXIT festival every summer at Petrovaradin Fortress. It's cheap, welcoming and still a bit rough at the edges, rewarding travellers who want Europe without the queues or the price tag.

Discover Serbia
Serbia is the heart of the Balkans — Belgrade, its capital, stands at the confluence of the Sava and the Danube, with a medieval fortress, a cobbled bohemian quarter and one of Europe’s liveliest nightlife scenes on floating clubs. Novi Sad, an hour north, holds EXIT festival and a Baroque old town known as the Serbian Athens.
Beyond the cities, the Fruška Gora hills bring monasteries and wine, Zlatibor offers mountain air and hiking, and the Đerdap gorge along the Romanian border is dramatic river scenery. Serbia’s generous hospitality and low prices make it one of the region’s most rewarding off-the-beaten-track trips.
Top places in Serbia
- Belgrade (Beograd) — Kalemegdan fortress, Skadarlija bohemian quarter and the world-famous floating nightlife.
- Novi Sad & EXIT Festival — Petrovaradin fortress hosts one of Europe’s best music festivals each July.
- Fruška Gora monasteries — Sixteen medieval Serbian Orthodox monasteries scattered in vine-covered hills above the Danube.
- Zlatibor mountain — Pine forests, traditional wooden architecture and cable cars — Serbia’s favourite mountain retreat.
- Đerdap Gorge (Iron Gates) — The dramatic river-canyon border with Romania, with Roman fortresses and scenic boat trips.
