Discover Sweden

Sweden occupies the eastern side of the Scandinavian peninsula and runs far enough north that the summer sun barely sets and the winter sun barely rises. Between the farmland of Skåne and the fells of Lapland lie pine forest, tens of thousands of lakes and a Baltic coastline broken into archipelagos. Allemansrätten, the right of public access written into the constitution, opens most of that landscape to anyone on foot.

Stockholm spreads across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic, from the medieval lanes of Gamla Stan to the museums on Djurgården. Gothenburg, on the west coast, was laid out by Dutch engineers around canals and faces the skerries of Bohuslän. Malmö belongs to Skåne — Danish until 1658, and joined to Copenhagen by the Öresund Bridge. Uppsala is quieter, a cathedral city that runs on university terms.
