San Diego

San Diego runs on near-constant sunshine, a long stretch of genuinely good beaches, and a laid-back surf-and-craft-beer culture that rarely feels manufactured for tourists. Balboa Park alone holds more museums and gardens than most whole cities manage, and the Gaslamp Quarter's Victorian-era blocks give downtown a walkable historic core that's rare in Southern California. It's an easy, sunny city that still sprawls hard once you leave the centre.
