Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats Bring Psychedelic Doom to Portland

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats are an English psychedelic rock and doom metal band formed in Cambridge by Kevin Starrs. Their music draws heavily on the late sixties, when heavy metal was emerging, and they use vintage instruments and recording equipment to conjure a blasted, post-Summer-of-Love atmosphere.

The band has released six studio albums and a live album, with Blood Lust winning cult status in the doom fraternity and Mind Control exploring a fictional cult leader's rise. Their most recent studio album, Nell' Ora Blu, continues that dark vision, and the current lineup pairs Starrs with Jon Rice on drums, Justin Smith on bass, George Hudson on guitar, and Rachel Burnett on keyboards.

Live, this is a heavy, psychedelic trip — vintage riffs, fuzz, and occult-tinged doom. The band has toured internationally and supported Black Sabbath on European shows, making this a chance to see a band steeped in heavy-rock history.
