Ghost in the Machine Film Premiere

The Ghost in the Machine Film Premiere takes place at Cinema Orion in Helsinki on 22 October 2026, starting at 17:15. The event is the premiere of Ghost in the Machine, a documentary from 2026 that runs 95 minutes and is directed by Valerie Veatch. It is performed in English. The film is an investigative documentary on the history of artificial intelligence, which it presents as a technology shaped by racism, misogyny, eugenics and entrenched structures of power. It rejects the idea that AI is inevitable or objective and traces how myths of progress and efficiency have obscured deeper political and cultural agendas. Over eight chapters, the film examines the philosophical, cultural and political forces behind the global AI boom. Valerie Veatch's earlier films Me @ the Zoo (HBO) and Love Child (HBO) premiered at Sundance. A post-screening discussion and audience QA follows, moderated by Dr. Nitin Sawhney, Docent at University of Helsinki and Uniarts Helsinki. Valerie Veatch joins online, together with Salla Westerstrand and Pierre Noro. The premiere is co-hosted with DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival. Tickets cost 10 or 12.50 euros.
