Acerca de The Smashing Pumpkins
Combining alternative rock with elements of gothic rock, heavy metal, grunge, psychedelia, and shoegaze, the band released a string of commercially successful albums in the 1990s. Siamese Dream (1993) sold more than four million copies in the United States, while the double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) debuted at number one, was certified ten-times platinum, and became the best-selling double album of the decade. The band has sold roughly 30 million albums worldwide.
Singles such as "Cherub Rock," "1979," "Zero," "Tonight, Tonight," and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" became alternative rock radio staples; "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" won the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1997, and Mellon Collie received seven Grammy nominations overall. Subsequent albums Adore (1998), Machina/The Machines of God (2000), Zeitgeist (2007), Oceania (2012), and Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 (2018) followed, alongside several lineup changes and a band breakup and reunion.
Corgan, Iha, and Chamberlin currently make up the band's core lineup, following guitarist Jeff Schroeder's departure in 2023 and the addition of touring guitarist Kiki Wong in 2024.
