Cabaret Téhéran - Gurshad Shaheman

Gurshad Shaheman returns to the Théâtre de la Bastille with *Cabaret Téhéran*, a solo show that channels the flamboyant voices of Iranian pop culture from the 1950s to today, in the great tradition of drag cabaret. Through a gallery of mythical female singers he embodies alone on stage, Shaheman blends iconic songs, fragments of history, and autobiographical flashes to evoke a free and sensual Tehran, brutally swept away by the 1979 revolution and the establishment of the Islamic regime.

True to his work at the intersection of the intimate and the political, Shaheman turns the stage into a space of reappearance and reappropriation. His body transforms, inhabited by the ghosts of a forbidden culture. Wielding joyful celebration like no one else, he turns the stage into a contagious burst of freedom.
