Thievery Corporation is an American musical duo formed in Washington, D.C., in 1995 by producers Rob Garza (born 1970) and Eric Hilton (born 1967), who met at the Eighteenth Street Lounge, a club Hilton had opened that year. The pair bonded over a shared interest in dub, bossa nova, reggae and jazz, which became the foundation of their sound.

À propos de Thievery Corporation

The duo blends downtempo electronica with global influences including acid jazz, Indian classical and Middle Eastern music, hip-hop and Brazilian bossa nova, often layering socially conscious lyrics over lounge-inflected productions. Their albums have charted steadily in the United States, from "The Richest Man in Babylon" (2002) through "Radio Retaliation" (2008), which reached number 35 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for best recording package, to "The Temple of I & I" (2017).

Thievery Corporation founded its own label, ESL Music, in 1996 to release its catalogue and that of other artists. Its recordings and live shows have featured a rotating cast of vocalists and collaborators, including Emiliana Torrini, Perry Farrell, David Byrne and Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, reflecting the group's identity as a loose collective built around Garza and Hilton's partnership.

The group released "Out of the Blur" in 2024 and has a further album, "A Sky So Close," planned for 2026, continuing three decades of genre-blending, internationally minded output.
