Magellan: The Explorer's Journey in Paris

This Parisian event brings the epic story of Ferdinand Magellan to life—the Portuguese explorer who led the first circumnavigation of the Earth. Visitors can trace his 1519–1522 expedition from Spain through the Strait of Magellan, across the Pacific to the Philippines, where he died in battle, and onward to the return voyage under Juan Sebastián Elcano. The narrative covers Magellan's early service in India, his fall from favour in Portugal, and his ultimate alliance with Spain.

The exhibition draws on the explorer's own letters and chronicles, highlighting his encounters with new lands and peoples. It delves into the challenges of mutiny, starvation, and the historic crossing of the Pacific—renamed the Mar Pacifico by Magellan. Through artefacts, maps, and immersive displays, guests can appreciate the daring and tragedy of a voyage that forever changed the world's understanding of its geography.
