Tbilisoba is Tbilisi's annual celebration of the city's diversity and history, filling the historic Old Tbilisi district with open-air concerts of traditional music and dancing, plus cultural events. As the fair unfolds, people arrive from all over Georgia to present regional harvest produce and Rtveli traditions, while the city government awards honorary citizenship to notable figures during the festivities.

The festival was first held in 1979 on the initiative of Eduard Shevardnadze, then the Communist Party first secretary, as a way to honor the capital. Over time it grew into a celebration of Tbilisi's 1,500-year history, drawing residents deeper into their national heritage. After a pause during the early-1990s civil unrest, Tbilisoba was revived in 1995 and has been held every year since.
