Before establishing his solo career, he fronted the bluegrass group the SteelDrivers from 2007 to 2010 and the rock band the Jompson Brothers from 2010 to 2013. His solo debut, Traveller (2015), topped the Billboard 200 and was certified triple platinum; subsequent albums include From A Room: Volume 1 and Volume 2 (2017), Starting Over (2020), and Higher (2023), blending country, Southern soul, and classic rock.
