Viapori's kekri in the Military Museum on 31 October 2026 in Helsinki: a community textile artwork, a Kekri character hunt and theme tours about supernatural wartime experiences.
Viapori's kekri in the Military Museum takes place at the Military Museum's Manege and Artillery Manege in Helsinki on 31 October 2026, starting at 11:00. The museum offers activities for all ages throughout the Kekri day, which runs from 11.00 to 20.00. At the community art workshop, visitors create a textile artwork together that explores light and shadow.
Visitors write or draw on strips of fabric torn from recycled sheets, noting things that bring light or shadow into life. During the day the strips form an immersive artwork that grows with each contribution. Kekri characters are hidden in the exhibition, including the Kekri goat and friends.
A visitor who finds one takes it to the ticket counter for a reward. The smaller the character, the bigger the reward. Each visitor can claim only one reward, and the number of rewards is limited.
Theme tours cover wartime experiences, when the line between this world and the next blurs, including supernatural experiences from Finland's wars. The tour Stories of Death and Ghosts in Finland's Wars 1918-1945 runs at the Military Museum Manege at 15.00. Tales from the Borderlands of the Beyond runs at the Military Museum Artillery Manege at 16.00 and 18.00.
